Hi, call me George or as my students at Needham’s Hillside & Sunita Williams Elementary School’s called me for 29 years, Mr.G.  I retired from teaching in 2024, took a great 6 week vacation in the Fall and decided I needed to get back to some old roots.

When I graduated from Boston College, my goal was to join the Peace Corps.  Unfortunately, I did not possess the skill set needed to qualify for a posting. My grandfather and father were always working on their homes and I was often the designated helper.  Working for a builder seemed like a good next step.  For the next 5 years, I learned everything from rough framing to finish, and cabinetry work.  By the way, I still have some of my grandfather’s tools. 

After 5 years in residential construction, I had honed a skill set and joined the Peace Corps. I was posted to the Kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland) for 2 years where I taught Woodshop.  In 1992, I returned Stateside and worked temporarily with my old RI construction crew.  I had caught the teaching bug and pursued my MS in Education from Lesley College. I was hired by the  Needham Public Schools in 1995.

I have worked on framing, siding, flooring, hung windows and doors, tiling, interior partitions, closet shelving, and indoor and outdoor painting, etc. My wife has a constant “wish list” and I have worked on numerous projects around the home when I’m not gardening, drumming, golfing, or helping my dad and our kids on their home projects.
